Description
The Chapel Bridge in Lucerne Switzerland is the oldest and second longest covered wooden bridge in Europe. This makes it a true tourist magnet. After its construction around 1365 it served as a defense course. It connects the old and new towns separated by the Reuss.
Probably by a thrown away cigarette the Chapel Bridge caught fire on 18 August 1993. The fire destroyed a large part of the bridge. Of the 111 famous triangular murals adorning the walls, only 30 were saved and restored. The destroyed pictures were partly replaced by copies !
