Description
Amsterdam is surrounded by picturesque, annularly extending channels. Initially ships were unloaded at the port of Amsterdam on barges and the goods transported via the channels to the people living and working in the center merchants.
Today, the around 2500 Amsterdam houseboats are not driving anymore - they are permanently safe moored on the banks of the city canals. Most Amsterdam houseboats are like small houses, built on the water. They have a terrace and a small garden on the deck. Today all houseboats are permanently connected to the public sewer and electricity network of the city.
