Description
The Torre de Belem in Belem district on the Tagus estuary is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Lisbon.
The Torre de Belem since its construction in 1515 served as a lighthouse. Due to its convenient location, on a rock in the estuary of the Tagus, he greeted a number of travelers, explorers and trade skipper the Portuguese mainland. The Portuguese King Manuel I ordered the construction of the Torre de Belem in 1515 in order. It was completed the building in the year that King - six years after construction began.
