A life for the glass
Roberto Niederer is a Swiss glass artist. Born 1928 as a Swiss citizen in Naples, italy and died 1988 in Catanzaro / Calabria, Italy, he lived in Zurich, Hergiswil at lake Lucerne and Sellia Marina / Calabria Italy.
He described himself as eternal emigrant and autodidactic glass fool. Despite 60 years of age and 45 years working in glass, he still felt at the beginning.
As a designer and artistic director of Glasi Hergiswil, Roberto Niederer coined with his unmistakable handwriting the style of Glasi Hergiswil. He mastered many forms of expression of the glass and understood how to translate strange ideas into glass, to translate them into the language of the glass.
