Description
The Villa Crespi in Orta San Giulio (Piedmont) is a, 1879 as country residence of the Italian cotton industrialist Cristoforo Benigno Crespi, erected residence in Moorish style.
The Building, which is visible from afar, because of its tower, designed in the manner of a minaret, is an example of Moorish Revival architecture in Italy. Its builder, who built also the industry settlement Crespi d'Adda, is reported to have this style, chosen as a sign of solidarity with the Orient, especially with Baghdad. Especially under Crespis son Silvio Benigno Crespi (1868-1944), until 1929 one of the most influential business tycoons of Italy, and subsequent owners, the Marchesi di Fracassi Torre Rossano, became the Villa, meeting place of the aristocratic, industrial and political elite of the country.
Today is in the villa a small luxury hotel.
